John Heie relies on more than thirty-five years of corporate business experience; to share the lessons he discovered in the trenches while learning to become an effective leader.
Heie offers sound leadership principles, ways to embrace and implement change, and shares the twelve attributes workers really want from their leaders, that include:
• A say in shaping vision
• Conversations about values
• Rewards for effecting constructive change
• Freedom to make decisions
• Encouragement and resources that enable growth
• Recognition of accomplishments
• An open invitation to speak and be heard.
As Heie leads beginning managers through the steps to become caring leaders, he proves time and time again that workers are the key to an organization's success because when the workers are fulfilled, happy, and loved, the rewards are enormous for everyone.

What others say about "Leading from the Heart"
"This little book surprised me. It has more to say about leadership in one page than most books do in a chapter. It describes an approach to management that is both results oriented and values oriented. I think most managers could learn valuable lessons from this book about successful and ethical leadership in the post bail-out period."
Dr. Douglas Sanders, principal ethics adviser, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology
"This refreshingly brief summary of best practices learned in the leadership and management of employees would make for good required reading for those new to such a position of supervision, or even for those long-time managers like myself that could benefit from a good refresher course -- instilled with a little more hope. For those of us tired of trying to keep up with all the trendy tomes of cutting edge business leadership literature, I appreciate getting to the point with the tried and true, especially from someone with vast experience in the world of directing business operations in an amazing setting like JPL. But, even where he spares us a long read and gets to the point, don't think he doesn't have much to say. Mr. Heie is himself familiar with the best theory, not just in experience but having taught business practices for years. What it comes down to is 12 essential aspects any employer or team leader ought to consider. While the themes may not surprise you, there are nuggets of wisdom throughout. Use it as I did like a daily encouragement and reminder to lead from the heart. Where I found it most valuable and hopeful is how it frames the conversation around leading cultural change in an organization and facing the resistance to it."
